I get “If you’re a business major, why are you a teacher?” a lot. Before I get defensive, I simply respond, “Because when you love what you do, you can’t imagine doing anything else.” I have never been more challenged, humbled, nervous, stressed or mentally drained in my entire life. I have also never felt like I was exactly where I needed to be or have been so excited to wake up and go to work everyday.
This is not the way I imagined my first year of teaching to end but high school seniors, college graduates, athletes, retirees, other fellow first year teachers and every other student and educator didn’t either. It’s because of each and everyone of them that we will get through this, together. I am inspired by the teachers at my school and around the world who are constantly learning and growing through every obstacle put in their way to provide for the needs of every one of their students. I especially feel blessed to have had such a strong support system of teammates, fellow teachers, and administration that has made this year so impactful despite the hiccups. Teachers are some of the most selfless people I have ever met; many personalities but all because they want to do what’s best for their students. The relationships, community and support I have seen this year inspires me beyond words. Thank you for making this such a memorable year and thank you to every educator for all that you do!
I will always remember the fun goofy class I had this year. All 20 brought something unique to our classroom community and they made me smile every single day. I have missed them so much the last 2 months. I get to go into my classroom Wednesday to pack up their belongings for summer and made them a little something. I wish I could give them all a hug.
